Behind every piece, a person
My name is Wilfried Fournier and I live in the Hérault, in the south of France. Code & Canvas is me, alone at the screen. No collective, no agency: one person, one machine, and an idea I have carried for a long time.
I am a developer. A master's degree in robotics, ten years writing real code, and a fascination that never let go of me: sequences, figures, fractals. Fibonacci above all.
Why this project
It all started with a search that led nowhere. I wanted to hang a beautiful Fibonacci spiral on my wall, a fractal, a figure born from an algorithm. I could not find anything I truly liked. So I decided to make it myself, and then to share it.
One piece a day, not one more
I chose a simple rule and I stick to it: a single artwork published every day. It is both a safeguard and a ritual. No flood of throwaway images, no waste, no noise. One piece, chosen, with its own place and its own date.
What still surprises me
Every day, I collect the pieces produced overnight and decide which ones deserve to be published. And I never know in advance what awaits me. That is my favourite part. The machine follows precise rules, chance stays on a short leash, and yet the result surprises me, again and again. This is exactly what I was looking for: rigour that still leaves room for the unexpected.
What the work is about
At heart, the message fits in one line: we love mathematics. Not for the classroom exercise, but for the beauty they produce when you let them speak. Code is not only my tool, it is my studio partner. I set the rules, it proposes forms, and together we decide what stays.
My influences? My own passion, first of all. Numbers, curves, and the patterns that keep coming back, in nature as much as on our screens.
Why limited, numbered editions
I want every buyer to own something rare. Each artwork is released in a limited, numbered edition and comes with a signed certificate of authenticity. It is my way of saying that this piece is unique, that it truly belongs to you, and that it will never be diluted into thousands of copies.
Quality, no compromise
I work with serious, well established printing partners. Paper, inks, finish: I would rather rely on trusted names than patch together a fragile supply chain. What you receive should last, and live up to the screen.
Behind the scenes, made simple
How is a piece born? Picture a very precise recipe. I give the computer a method and a small dose of chance, kept within limits that I set. It draws an image, different every time, yet always true to the recipe.
Each artwork then receives a unique fingerprint, a kind of identity code that cannot be copied, followed by a digital signature proving it really comes from my studio. Finally, a partner prints it on fine paper and sends it to you. Nothing is left to chance, except chance itself, and that is the point.
It is real work: designing the algorithms, tuning the colours, sorting, validating, starting over. The gesture is invisible, but it is there, every single day.
