Conformance status

The site is partially conformant. A round of fixes was carried out in September 2026: label contrast raised above the threshold, a skip link and a named content landmark on every page, the blinking cursor stopped, the reduced motion preference honoured, controls and a description added to the exhibition video, links that open a new window now say so, and a warning before the museum filters submit on their own.

Gaps remain. They are listed below, each with the reason it has not been fixed. We would rather name them than claim a conformance we do not have.

Non-accessible content

The exhibition video has no captions

The reel on the exhibition pages carries an instrumental music track, with no speech at all. WCAG 1.2.2 would still ask for a caption identifying it. Those pages have a four-month life span, and the textual description of the artwork already exists: a link to it sits below the video. We chose not to caption background music in this case.

The 3D gallery is WebGL content

The three-dimensional room cannot be walked with a keyboard or read out by a screen reader. A complete 2D version is served automatically when WebGL is unavailable: it gives access to the same rooms and the same artworks, with links to every artwork page. That version is the accessible alternative, and it is not a degraded one.

The header clock updates on its own

It rewrites its text every second with no way to stop it. It is decorative, it sits outside any live region, and no screen reader announces it. We left it as it is.

The header navigation links are small targets

Their height is around 19 pixels, against the 24 that WCAG 2.5.8 asks for. That criterion is level AAA in WCAG 2.1, so it falls outside EN 301 549 v3.2.1. We will fix it the next time the header is reworked.

The back office is out of scope

The administration interface is an internal tool, used by a single person. It is not meant for the public and is not covered by this statement, even though the issues spotted along the way were fixed there too.

Preparation of this statement

This statement was prepared on 7 September 2026.

Evaluation method: self-assessment, based on an internal audit of the site's templates, stylesheets and scripts carried out on 6 September 2026. No third-party audit has been commissioned to date. The tests are automated and rerun on every change to the site.

Telling us about a problem

If you come across content you cannot use, tell us through the report form. Messages are read by a person, never published, and we answer. Where you can, mention the page and what you were trying to do.
